WRO, WSRO, and FTC.

Robotics taught me how to actually build something real, not just learn about it in a classroom. Every competition taught me things I couldn't get anywhere else: working under pressure, debugging a mechanism the night before a match, figuring out why something that worked in testing fails on the field. It's also where the love of building things that started with LEGO as a kid became something more serious. Going forward, I want to keep developing my projects and skills, apply what I've learned to help others through initiatives like GameBridge, and keep building.

Tinkering with LEGO Boost
Self-directed, pre-competition
Before the pandemic, spending a lot of time with LEGO, building sets, experimenting with LEGO Technic for mechanical builds, and eventually getting into LEGO Boost for programmable models. It was less about competition and more about curiosity: figuring out how things were put together and what you could make them do.

Mindstorms
LEGO Mindstorms, Spike Prime and EDUBotics
Kids Techie Club / EDUBotics
Post-lockdown, moved from Boost into LEGO Mindstorms EV3 and Spike Prime through the EDUBotics programme. Compared to Boost, the robots were more capable and the programming more involved. Completed the EDUBotics WEdo Advanced programme and started thinking about competition.

WRO India, Robomission Elementary
Team K&K
First competitive robotics season. Competed with a teammate, with our parents teaching us everything from scratch: Spike Prime programming, robot design, strategy, and how to approach the WRO mission. Everything was learned ground up, which made the result more meaningful. Finished 12th at Regionals and 8th at the WRO India Nationals, earning a Gold Badge.

FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge), Season 1 (CENTERSTAGE)

First FTC season with Team Paraducks. Got introduced to the engineering process: CAD modelling, building, wiring, and programming a competition robot. Learned to read the game manual, design mechanisms for match conditions, and write basic autonomous code. Finished 2nd in qualifications at the India Championship, reached the finals as Finalist Alliance Captain, and won the Design Award.

WRO India, Future Innovators Junior, 3rd Place
Team KUBE, Ahmedabad
Built an autonomous seaweed farming robot for the Future Innovators category. Seaweed grows fast, needs no fresh water or fertiliser, and absorbs CO2, which made it an interesting subject for a sustainable farming project. The robot navigated a simulated environment and harvested seaweed at marked locations. Finished 3rd nationally after progressing through regionals.

Don Bosco International School
Competed through school with two classmates in the 1 Kg Lego Sumo category at the WSRO India National Competition at Vigyan Bhawan Science City, Ahmedabad. Won the category.

Second FTC season with Team Paraducks. Built on Season 1 by going deeper into autonomous programming and robot reliability. Learned to write more robust code, design mechanisms with tighter tolerances, and approach driver practice more systematically. Finished 14th in qualifications at the India Championship and won the Design Award.

After two seasons with Paraducks, I pushed for Don Bosco to start its own FTC team, the first in the school's history. The two other DBIS members from my earlier seasons were in Grade 10 for boards and couldn't participate, so I took the initiative myself, brought the team together, and captained it through the full season. For a brand new rookie team competing for the first time, the results were strong: 1st in qualifications at the West Regional Championship, Finalist Alliance Captain, and Control Award. At the India National Championship, 5th in qualifications and Connect Award.

Maker's Asylum
Maker's Asylum, Innovation School
Maker's Asylum, incl. Goa Residency
Year-long maker programme alongside the FTC season. During the Goa residency, built a multi-node pollution mapping system from scratch, which involved learning soldering, PCB design, electronics and wiring, CAD for the enclosure, and IoT for data transmission. Different from competition robotics in that there was no rulebook, just a problem to solve.

// what's next
I want to go deeper on autonomous systems, specifically computer vision and path planning, the parts that make robots behave intelligently rather than just mechanically. I'm also interested in building projects that exist outside competition: things with real constraints, real users, and no rulebook to follow. And one day, I want to compete at the FTC World Championship.
